Park Nursery Curriculum

We welcome children from 3 months to 5 years old across our Acorns, Willows, Oaks, Mini Maples and Maples rooms, each designed to support children at their specific stage of development. This structure allows younger children to learn from those slightly older, while older children naturally develop confidence and leadership as they support their peers.

Each room is thoughtfully arranged with resources placed at children’s height, encouraging independence and exploration. Our environments are continually adapted to reflect the children’s interests, ensuring learning feels meaningful, engaging and child‑led.

Our Approach to Learning

Each room develops the children’s confidence and independence in an age appropriate way. We support the children with the earliest of skills such as sitting, crawling, walking and early talking in our baby rooms, toilet training in our two year old room and beyond.

Throughout the nursery we foster a love of books, rhyming and singing. Being a kind friend and enjoying being part of the Park community as well as developing the children’s more complex physical skills just as jumping, balancing and climbing.

We enjoy local walks, a festive trip to the post box to send home Christmas cards, police and fire services visit.

Outdoor Learning – Beach and Forest School

Our pre-school room enjoy a trip to the beach as part of our Beach school programme and our 3+ aged children in enjoy a forest school trip.

Feedback on Development & Progress

To keep you fully informed about your child’s learning journey, parents receive three observations each month, capturing key moments of progress and development. A full 27‑month review is completed by your child’s key person, and daily handovers ensure you’re kept up to date with anything important. If you ever feel a longer conversation would be helpful, additional meetings or catch‑ups can be arranged at any time to support a strong and effective partnership between home and nursery.

Transition to School

We want our pre‑school children to leave us with all the essential “invisible hooks” they need to build new knowledge as they move into Reception and beyond. Throughout their time in Maples, we nurture strong pre‑reading and early writing skills, ensuring every child can recognise and write their own name with confidence.

Our children develop a genuine love of stories and enjoy engaging in conversations about what they’ve heard, showing curiosity and comprehension. By the time they leave us, they are confident, independent learners who are ready for their next adventure.

As part of the school, the transition to Reception is a natural and exciting step. Children look forward to joining the Koala or Panda class, eager to continue their journey.

Curriculum Projects and the Community

Community is important to use and we love taking part in Bournemouth in Bloom, a local gardening competition. This year’s theme is “Edible Garden”.

Parent Communication

We believe strong communication between home and nursery is key to helping every child thrive. Families receive regular updates through Ovivio, where staff share daily diaries, messages and important information. Nursery families are also included in the weekly school newsletter, and we share highlights and updates through our social media channels. Each term, we host parents’ evenings as well as family events that bring our community together.

Parents are warmly invited to take part in a range of events throughout the year, including coffee mornings, stay‑and‑play sessions and seasonal celebrations. These moments offer a lovely chance to see your child’s learning in action and to connect with other families.
